As it supposed to be (25/7/2012) could have been just another day in my life , had I opted to stay back in my dormitory siting Bangalore traffic and pending assignments. But then I made up my mind, knowing that I'm not going to get another chance any sooner.
Rashmi Bansal was in Bangalore for last couple of days for promoting her recent book "Poor Little Rich Slum". An entrepreneur, from IIM - Ahmedabad is a living icon and role model for all MBA graduates and also to wanna-be entreprenuers. She has authored four books - Stay Hungry Stay Foolish, I have a Dream, Connect the Dots and the recent Poor Little Rich Slum.
Sapna Book Store had organized this promotional event. It was Rashmi Bansal herself who let me know about this event , since I had earlier regretted about missing the past two days' events. The session had already started by the time I reached there. She was answering to the various queries by the audience. It was about 45 minutes. It ended and we were queuing up to get autographs.
She was having about a 15 minute interview with an Indian Express journalist. After all these ,she still had enough time for us. When I had my chance after the long wait, I was over the moon that she actually remembered me after I introduced myself (she knws me thru' twitter). She was explaining her inability to come to my college.
After this, I asked her my first question, "Mam', I am in dilemma either to pursue my entrepreneurial desires or to play it safe. " Her answer ," If you are really good at trusting yourself, then do it. I had started writing from my 2nd year of my college and I followed my passion and that's why I'm standing here". This prompted me to ask the next question , "How to overcome the fear of failure?" She replied, "As said earlier, self-confidence will itself take care of handling fear". Then, I asked for a photo with her, which she gleefully accepted and she even wrote a sentence for me which read ,"Dear Raj, Stay Hungry but work hard- Rashmi!". After the photos, I made a kind request as to reduce Hindi phrases in her books . She laughed it out and said , "It is better for you to learn Hindi !" and smiled at me and yeaH I replied postively:)
Throughout the entire session, she was so composed in answering the questions. She was so down-to-earth and had a easily approachable attitude. At the end of it all, I felt myself very lucky as to meet the author of the book herself in person(in 2months) , whom I had desired to meet after i had finished reading the book "Stay Hungry Stay Foolish". That was the book which had ignited my entrepreneurial desires. It was such an inspiring book and only an author of Rashmi Bansal's stature can create it.
"Follow your passion" Pull your socks and start working. Someone could see you with that same amazement , I had when I saw Rashmi.
